Project Name: Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre Patient Support Videos
Project Summary:
The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre (BWoSCC or “Beatson) is the largest Specialised Cancer Centre in Scotland. It provides a “hub and spoke” model for a population which covers 2.9 million, over four Health Boards: NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde (NHS GGC), NHS Lanarkshire, NHS Ayrshire and Arran and NHS Forth Valley. An internationally renowned teaching centre, the Cancer Centre incorporates the academic units of Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Translational Research and Palliative Care. The centre treats over 10,000 new patients and over 70,000 returning patients annually. Each year , more than100,000 fractions of radiotherapy and 28,000 cycles of chemotherapy are administered within the centre. Traditionally the clinical teams also deliver medical cancer treatments in 13 local hospitals in collaboration with local specialist cancer teams.
The Collaborative Working Project (CWP) with the Beaston West of Scotland Cancer Centre at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHS GGC) aims to develop 6-7 informative oncology related patient videos to enable the following aims:
- Manage patient and care giver expectations of potential oncology treatments and /or procedures and in turn provide increased patient empowerment;
- Address service capacity levels by alleviating time pressures on oncology healthcare professionals whereby time is spent repeating similar patient queries on a daily basis;
- Monitor patient and service impact.
- Share insights and best practice at a national level. (Clinical Audit and Research meeting Scottish BC Annual meeting 2025- managed by MCN) UK BC Group Meeting.)
Novartis will have the option to utilise the patient education videos within a patient support programme if needed.
