Role Purpose: Novartis’ Biomedical Research (BR) Informatics (RX) is establishing a strong presence in India and we are seeking a proactive and versatile professional in the role of Product Manager for Sample Shipping & Compliance within the Sample Management Product Line. This position requires an individual who possesses a strong commitment to Product Management Excellence. As a global company with multiple Biomedical Research sites, the ability to ship samples proficiently and compliantly is key to the success of Novartis. In this role, there is a focus on sample logistics and optimizing turnaround time. Additionally, you will ensure that BR meets all shipping regulations, and you will understand how compounds are compared when regulation compliance is checked.

About the Role

Role Title:  Product Manager -  Research Informatics (Sample Shipping and Compliance)

Location: Hyderabad

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Co-lead and manage, together with a Product Operations Manager (POM) and a Technology Lead (TL), a complex, globally deployed, high-impact scientific software product and set of applications.
  • Provide strategic context and focus to the teams, facilitate prioritization, and cultivate good team-based decision-making practice. 
  • Strive for excellence in product management to continuously improve the impact and value of software and data to BR. 
  • Actively and transparently identify, manage, and communicate to all key stakeholders to co-create product visions and roadmaps and define how we measure success and value delivery for your product.
  • Ensure your product contributes to an intentional, integrated, and capability-based software product architecture and continuously increases the value defined by the strategic mandate of your Product Line.
  • Shape your teams’ culture and processes for success by exemplifying excellence in leadership and product management. 
  • Ensure adherence to Novartis’ global Information Security and Quality standards and policies for all products/services, including GxP compliance if applicable.

Essential Requirements:

You bring experience in product management in complex business environments and have domain knowledge in a core drug discovery scientific discipline - such as biology, chemistry, or computational sciences, or domain knowledge of sample logistics. You have an intrinsic drive to improve the quality, speed, and impact of scientific research by providing exceptional software products. You are highly collaborative, skilled at dealing with ambiguity, and use your strategic mindset to understand priorities of possible product activities and developments in a broader business context.  

 In addition, you bring many of the following skills and capabilities, and the drive to grow into the rest:  

  • Ability to lead effectively in a co-leadership model inside of a matrix organization, and to collaboratively develop and promote a shared vision. 
  • Courage to constructively challenge the status quo, to experiment, and to take smart risks.  
  • Creativity in identifying and implementing innovative solutions. 
  • Ability to effect change, manage conflict, and create consent through direct and indirect influence. 
  • Domain expertise in the drug discovery industry in the informatics capability space. 
  • Strong written, visual, and verbal communication skills. 
  • Agile mindset and experience with agile software development. 
  • Quantitative skills and the ability to use data and metrics to inform decisions. 
  • Proven ability to execute consistently, rapidly, and effectively. 
  • Have a clear and visible set of values and act with integrity. 

Education & Qualifications

  • PhD, university degree or equivalent experience in computer science, information technology, or life science
  • Proficiency in chemistry or cheminformatics (e.g. small molecule design or registration).

Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in matrix team leadership in an agile environment.
  • 8+ years of experience in scientific software product management in a matrix environment.
  • Drug discovery, a core supporting scientific field, or sample logistics.
  • Experience with vendors solution integration and management, e.g. RFI/RFP processes.
