We are looking for an associate director to join our Analytics Computing & Engineering (ACE) team in Development. Within Development, our core statistical computing environment is used for submissions as well as exploratory data science related activities. Hosting a wide range of scientific software, the goal is to provide a robust and state-of-the-art platform for our 1900+ users. We are looking for someone to enable our analytics and statistical programming community by providing operational excellence in our ongoing efforts to design, build and maintain tools and infrastructure in close collaboration with IT.

About the Role

Major Accountabilities but not limited to:

 

· Engage with user communities to identify high priority subject areas and articulate business value, identifying and driving opportunities for continuous improvement and modernization in our tooling

· Lead the design and development of technical frameworks and tools (packages, applications, etc.) that enable clinical trial teams to use open source in a GxP setting.

· Play a key role in driving the agile development cycle of the tool coordinating work across various stakeholders (IT, QA, …)

· Help drive change management and uptake of emerging tools and ways of working 

· Write technical content for our knowledge hubs, share and promote them to a wide range of users 

· Support definition, implementation and tracking of effectiveness of best practices. 

· Drive process specific initiatives such as R Package Management and Automation, R Shiny Performance Improvement, etc.

· Coach junior team members in technical topics and best practices

· Help drive the culture of open-source development through engagement in external communities to both contribute new packages / features as well as maintenance and support activities.

 

Experience/Professional Requirement:

· MSc in a quantitative / computational science (e.g. compute science, machine learning, statistics, physics, mathematics) or relevant experience. Preferred: experience in the life sciences sector.

· 5 to 10 years of experience in the development of applications / dashboards / websites (Shiny, JavaScript, Quarto, etc.) that can help communication of complex topics (e.g. data visualization, analysis, etc.).

· Understanding of the regulatory requirements (e.g. GxP ) and computer system validation principles.

· Depth of knowledge in good software development practices (virtual environments, versioning, code review etc.) with experience of embedding these in the day-to-day work of a team. 

· Experience in using tools like JIRA, git, virtual whiteboards to plan, collaborate and track progress.

· Solution-oriented mindset with a collaborative spirit.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English language).
