The Director, CA Communications & engagement is accountable to deliver an audience-focused comms and engagement plan that moves Corporate Affairs to a culture that drives collaboration and performance and positions CA internally and externally as a predictive, state-of-the-art function and a great place to work. This role supports the CA Skill Building program and other strategic programs and projects across CA. The Director, CA Comms & Engagement is also responsible for delivering large-scale CA events and facilitating smaller briefings.

About the Role

Major accountabilities:

  • CA Communications & Engagement Strategy: Own and collaboratively develop the CA Communications & Engagement plan, ensuring it is audience-focused and aligned with the overall Corporate Affairs objectives. Execute the plan, driving a culture of collaboration, performance, and innovation within the function. Leverage data and analytics to inform communication strategy, measure the impact of communication efforts, and provide actionable insights for continuous improvement. Use data to understand audience preferences, engagement patterns, and the effectiveness of communication channels and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Communications & Change Management: Design and implement communications and change management plans as needed to support CA as a function. Collaborate with stakeholders to effectively communicate initiatives, drive engagement, and manage change within the organization.
  • External Positioning: Define an external positioning plan for Novartis CA that positions it as a leading, strategic and predictive CA function and a great place to work, collaborating with stakeholders to highlight the unique value proposition of the function to external audiences.
  • Implement a Comprehensive Social Media Strategy to reach CA Comms Objectives: Develop and implement a social media strategy for CA Communications & Engagement, considering appropriate platforms, content formats, and engagement tactics to reach and engage target audiences effectively. Stay updated on new social media platforms, trends, and features to ensure a strategic and impactful presence in the digital space.
  • Internal Communications Calendar: Own and maintain an internal calendar of CA communications and events, ensuring a strategic and coordinated approach to internal messaging and activities. Ensure alignment with key initiatives, corporate events, and relevant milestones.
  • Function-Wide Engagement Events: Plan and manage CA function-wide engagement events, fostering collaboration, building relationships, and enhancing employee engagement within the function. Ensure seamless event execution and measure the impact of engagement efforts.
  • CA Briefings: Facilitate CA briefings on various topics, bringing together cross-functional stakeholders to share information, align on key messages, and drive understanding and engagement.
  • Executive Communications: Write inspiring and engaging communications on behalf of the Global Head Corporate Affairs and the Corporate Affairs Leadership Team (CALT), ensuring consistency, clarity, and alignment with the overall communication strategy.
  • CA Skill-Building Program: Support the Director, CA Excellence & Innovation in delivering the CA Skill-Building programs, contributing to the development and execution of training initiatives that enhance the capabilities and effectiveness of the CA function.
  • Project Management Support: Provide project management support for strategic programs and projects within CA. Monitor project progress, implement project management methods and tools, and support the achievement of project objectives.
  • Impact Measurement: Develop and measure impact Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for CA Communications and Skill Building initiatives, tracking the effectiveness and outcomes of communication efforts and skill-building programs.
  • Stay on the Cutting Edge of Communication Trends: Keep abreast of the latest communication trends, technologies, and best practices to ensure that the CA Communications & Engagement function remains at the forefront of industry innovation. Incorporate emerging technologies, such as AI-driven chatbots or virtual reality experiences, into communication strategies where relevant

Role requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) degree in in Business Communications, Journalism or marketing or similar
  • Proven experience in developing and executing communication and engagement strategies, preferably in a corporate or agency setting.
  • Strong understanding of change management principles and experience in designing and implementing change communication plans.
  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to craft clear, concise, and impactful communications for different audiences and channels.
  • Experience in managing large-scale events and facilitating engaging and interactive briefings.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders, and monitor project progress.
  • Knowledge of measurement and evaluation methodologies to assess the impact and effectiveness of communication and engagement efforts.
