Novartis is preparing to launch several innovative medicines across four therapeutic areas over the next five years. To drive successful launches, we are seeking a Director to join the U.S. Launch Excellence Capabilities & Business Partnerships Team within the U.S. Launch & Portfolio Excellence Group. This role will lead priority projects to advance Novartis’s launch excellence approach to maximize patient impact and organizational success.
The Director will primarily focus on developing and actioning implementation plans for key drivers of launch excellence relevant to the Novartis pipeline, including strengthening planning for rapid and highly specialized launches, developing and delivering a launch readiness scorecard, and supporting knowledge sharing and annual planning for launch assets. The Director will also help define future launch excellence imperatives by anticipating future success drivers amidst rapid marketplace evolution.
Key partners include Launch Excellence team members, product strategy teams, functional teams, and other portfolio groups. The position reports to the Executive Director, Launch Excellence, and can only be based in the countries noted, either remotely or at a local Novartis site (hybrid arrangement). Relocation is not provided. The position will require 15-20% travel as defined by the business (primarily to the U.S).

About the Role

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop implementation plans to rapidly translate strategic and operational launch excellence methods and learnings into action.
  • Support the enhancement of the Novartis launch excellence framework for specific launch types, including rapid-pace and rare diseases.
  • Develop and operationalize a pre-launch readiness scorecard that proactively addresses risks and seizes opportunities.
  • Partner with customer excellence and product strategy leads to codify account planning excellence standards for launch assets.
  • Support launch teams and organizational leaders in annual planning for pre-launch products.
  • Co-lead the launch excellence knowledge sharing hub and resources and support annual launch community forums.
  • Lead new projects defined by the Launch Excellence annual plan.

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree; MBA or equivalent highly preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in pharmaceuticals, including brand/marketing strategy and commercialization, cross-functional execution, planning and operations.
  • U.S. market experience and understanding of the U.S. healthcare system.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional project teams in a matrix environment.
  • Strong analytical, financial, and project management skills; ability to utilize multiple inputs to draw insights, align on priorities, and execute. Ability form points of view and recommendations.
  • Biopharmaceutical experience with Rare Diseases, novel platform products, and/or Specialty products and launches; experience in Cardio Renal Metabolic, Immunology, Neuroscience, and/or Oncology therapeutic areas.
  • Strong communications and storytelling skills
  • Experience anticipating future market drivers and associated action plans; experience with test-and-learn approaches and rapid iteration
  • Fluency in English

Desirable requirements: 

  • Strategic and operational consulting experience.
  • Experience in launch excellence or other enterprise-wide roles.
