Summary

To gain long-term value, it is vital that our Environmental Social Governance (ESG) efforts are embedded to ensure systemic change across the organization. You will collaborate with the internal community of Environment, Social, Governance (ESG) experts to develop and support key initiatives to position Novartis as a trusted leader in the pharmaceutical sector. This is a unique opportunity to shape Novartis’ Sustainability strategy and work with senior leaders across the organization to drive long-term impact. You will report to the Head Strategy, Sustainability & ESG and supports key strategic initiatives across ESG dimensions and the cross-functional community of ESG exerts.

About the Role

Key responsibilities:

  • Strategic initiatives:  Support the Head Strategy, Sustainability & ESG with global initiatives in sustainability and ESG, e.g., lead and contribute to strategic projects and initiatives in the areas of health equity, social impact and environmental sustainability
  • ESG 5-year roadmap: Contribute to the continued development and refinement of the 5-year sustainability and ESG strategy
  • Governance processes & leadership support: Support key governance processes, owned by the ESG & Sustainability Office – incl. support the preparation of key leadership meetings (incl. ESG Committee, Executive-level decision board for ESG); act as Secretariat for the ESG Leaders Forum (one Executive-1 leader per unit/function responsible for Novartis cross-functional ESG strategy) and ESG Strategy LT (key stakeholders in units/functions)
  • Commitment tracking: Lead ESG Commitments process oversight and tracking
  • Capability building: Support training/learning concept and execution for the Board of Directors, Leadership, ESG Community and all-employee levels.
  • Intelligence: Be on the forefront of knowledge in the sustainability and ESG space in the industry; support trend monitoring and benchmarking efforts; distill outputs and recommendations which enable informed decisions of top-level leaders
  • External partnerships: Define and drive the sustainability & ESG engagement strategy for Novartis, with external stakeholders – including key events and memberships (Point of contact for external memberships)

What you’ll bring to the role:

Essential Criteria:

  • Degree in Business, Engineering, Sustainability or Life Sciences (MBA a plus), or equivalent on-the-job experience.
  • Strong knowledge of sustainability and ESG topics.
  • Project and program management experience in strategic projects; management consulting background preferred (equal to associate, senior associate or project manager level) or other relevant work experience.....
  • Ability to support and manage projects with high quality, interact with senior stakeholders and lead cross-functional project teams (internal stakeholders and external providers); strong attention to detail.
  • Previous experience developing presentations for senior leaders, communicate and present clearly and make strategic recommendations in a complex matrix environment and to work at all levels of the organization, including senior stakeholders

Desirable skills:

  • Previous experience in the pharmaceutical industry (industry knowledge)
