Summary

Our Associate Director, Cloud Engineer will Establish robust cloud governance and monitoring of a GxP Statistical Compute Environment (SCE) Data Science Platform comprised of multiple integrated SaaS components. You’ll strike a balance between ensuring a well-performing cloud application and maintaining cloud costs. In this role, you’ll engage and with SaaS vendors to understand their cloud offerings and then design governance mechanisms and processes to ensure that the SCE is meeting performance and scaling requirements within budget. Our Associate Director, Cloud Engineer will evolve cloud governance as the SCE evolves and components are added / retired. Partner with the SCE Operations Team to ensure they have the tools and processes to effectively predict future cloud costs for operational budgets. About the Role

Key Responsibilities:

Interact with various IT and business stakeholders, 3rd party vendors, and other IT line functions for the following:

  • Work with SCE project and operational team members to provide insights and projections regarding cloud resources needed by the SCE.

  • Establish governance processes that ensure the cloud resources for the SCE meet GxP requirements and establish cloud governance controls with input alignment from 3rd party vendors that enable implementation of cloud governance.

  • Lead cloud governance, monitoring and budgeting aspects of the new SaaS-based SCE to enable on-time releases of the new SCE that meet Business and organizational objectives.

  • Ensure necessary cloud resource monitoring tools and processes are in place.  This includes working with 3rd party vendors to create and enhance reports that they provide to Novartis and then consolidate these reports to provide the insights needed to govern all the cloud resources used by the SCE.

  • Based on SCE roadmap and future business use of the SCE, forecast expected cloud resources for optimized performance.

  • Forecast future cloud costs for inclusion in project and operational budgets (costs, savings, revenue opportunities, investment horizon, etc.). Identify and implement cloud resource and cost optimizations for efficient use of resources and formulate a compliant approach to develop and deploy changes.

  • Partner with the Operational Support organization to knowledge transition cloud governance processes and tools for use by operational support.  Evolve and enhance cloud monitoring and governance processes and tools to meet organizational needs.

  • Keep abreast with internal IT systems and documentation requirements, standards (including quality management and IT security), regulatory environments / requirements, DDIT Service Portfolio and with industry best practices regarding cloud technologies.

Key Requirements:

  • University degree in Informatics, Computer Sciences, Life Sciences or similar. 

  • 10 years’ experience working in an IT environment with a track record delivering global solutions at scale through effective change management and interactions with senior management across geographical & organisational boundaries.

  • Advanced knowledge of Lean/ 6 Sigma, Design Thinking, Agile methodology with extensive project management and change management experience.

  • Delivery of validated IT solutions and collaborating across boundaries,

  • Experience in IT technical strategy & planning, emerging technology monitoring, IT enterprise & business architecture, IT solution architecture, performance management, managing resources, stakeholder management, IT governance and making quality decisions.

  • Proficiency in English (written & oral).

Desirable:

  • An advanced degree and related accreditations in related fields.   

  • Experience working in Biostatistics and/or and quantitative science data platforms in the Pharmaceutical industry.

  • Experience delivering and managing Development IT system landscape in pharmaceutical industry.

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
