Novartis is one of 73 companies included in the 2017 Water A List by CDP, the nonprofit global environmental disclosure platform, in recognition of our global leadership in sustainable water management. We have consistently improved our water score over the past years (A- in 2016, B in 2015) through ongoing efforts to manage and mitigate water risk both in our own operations and beyond.
For instance, the new office complex at our site in Hyderabad, India, improved energy efficiency by 38% and water efficiency by 47%. Further, it was awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) platinum certification – one of the most prestigious green building certification programs worldwide. Beyond its own operations, Novartis is also increasing efforts to assess water usage and risks linked to water scarcity across its supply chain.

The Water A List is published alongside similar lists for corporate leadership in other areas such as climate. In 2017, Novartis maintained an A- rating in CDP's climate score.
Last year CDP set the bar even higher, raising its A score threshold and making the top spot more competitive, which means companies must show improvement to even just maintain their score.
Sustainability management is an essential ingredient of good business at Novartis. The company's environmental sustainability vision is underpinned by targets spanning four areas: energy and climate, water and micropollutants, materials and waste, and environmental sustainability management.
While Novartis Group sales have more than doubled in the past 15 years, our consumption of energy and water has increased at a much slower pace, and greenhouse gas emissions have been reduced.
