About the Role

Purpose:

Are you ready to become the Head of Clinical Development Capabilities and Engagement? Novartis are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team. You will shape the future of clinical drug development at Novartis and enable the pipeline growth ambitions. You will champion efficient connectivity and drive capability building and engagement activities across Clinical Development and foster ongoing relationships with the CD Leadership Team and our cross functional partners.

Your Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop & nurture world class Clinical Development talent base:

  • Accountable for creating and for the execution of key strategic capability building plans focused on quality, business value and agility to build a CD community of experienced drug developers. fostering sharing of clinical findings across different phases of drug development & therapeutic areas.

  • Define, own, and complete plans to build the capabilities required to attain digital excellence in clinical trials, working together with the digital CD team.

  • In collaboration with HR, lead designing a strategy to attract, develop, motivate, and retain top CD talent, building leadership and skills pipeline for the future.

Continuously drive transformative Novartis Clinical Development practice:

  • Drive strategic enhancement and simplification of the Novartis clinical development approach (CDP, clinical trial designs, protocol, and its review) to improve speed and successful outcome of clinical programs.

  • Explores future trends, innovation and digital advances and integrates into capability initiatives to drive an effective and engaging learner experience.

  • Works with Analytics Global Development Operations and Leadership Functions to establish a seamless continuum between science, strategy, and operations.

Change Management, Engagement and Culture:

  • Define, develop, and deliver communications and organisational change plans to support adoption of new processes, systems, and ways of working.

  • Assess the impact and effectiveness of organizational capability building initiatives, develop action plans to address gaps, and provide regular feedback and reporting to CD LT.

  • Support a culture of continuous improvement and learning across the organization.

Minimum requirements:

  • MD, preferably with additional scientific degree preferred; Advanced degree MD/PhD with significant clinical development and organizational set up, capability building and change management experience.

  • Leader with vision in Clinical Development with a minimum of 12 years of experience leading international clinical development programs in the pharmaceutical industry, spanning over the full development cycle (including NDA experience).

  • Deep technical expertise in the art of clinical development (has worked hands-on on complex clinical programs).

  • Experience working in organizations undergoing significant cultural and process change.

  • Strong awareness of other dimensions of drug development beyond clinical (has served on cross-functional development teams).

  • Extensive experience of people leadership, and passionate about developing others.

  • Strong listener, curious about other perspectives, and a champion of collaboration

  • Excellent organizational planning skills, with the ability to prioritize effectively in a fast-moving environment. Able to lead high visibility initiatives and deliver under pressure.

  • Action orientated: makes things happen - exhibits a strong will to inspire change.

  • Proficient in English
