Novartis is seeking a highly motivated Principal Scientist with a strong background in molecular and cell biology, assay development, and high throughput screening for a role in the High Throughput Biology group within Discovery Sciences. About the Role:

Novartis is seeking a highly motivated Principal Scientist with a strong background in molecular and cell biology, assay development, and high throughput screening for a role in the High Throughput Biology group within Discovery Sciences. As a Principal Scientist, you will bring your expertise in molecular and cellular biology to address key scientific questions related to multiple disease areas. You will co-lead projects, develop assays, develop model systems, and lead discovery efforts for target identification and lead finding activities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Independently develop novel assays for multiple disease areas

  • Work collaboratively within a matrixed organization to leverage expertise of a multidisciplinary field

  • Independently design, execute and interpret complex experiments to support drug discovery activities

  • Deliver and communicate results to project teams in a clear and concise manner

Minimal requirements:

  • Ph.D. in biological sciences, molecular biology or equivalent field, with 3+ years of post-doctoral work, or BS/MS with 10+ years of related work experience, preferably in industry

  • A deep understanding of assay development and/or expertise in establishing new assays or model systems

  • Proficient in molecular biology techniques including qRT-PCR, immunofluorescence staining, tissue culture, and cell-based assays

  • Proficient in analyzing complex datasets with multiparametric readouts

  • Highly organized, strong communication skills, independent, capable of working in a team environment and collaborates well with others

Preferred qualifications:

  • Background in neurobiology, regenerative medicine, or relevant field

  • Experience with complex cell culture systems, organoids, or iPSCs

  • Experience with drug discovery

  • Experience with automation and screening

  • Strong background in innovation and problem solving

  • Proficient in data analysis tools

  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $112,800 to $169,200/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
